Have you ever had those feelings that when you see something special, you just know it to be true in your heart? Sure sometimes you think you are seeing the real thing, but your eyes may be deceiving you. I have had the pleasure of seeing one of the best up and coming pitching phenoms up close and personal, and I felt it to be my duty to say all of MLB.....Watch out for Max Scherzer.
The first round selection by the D-Backs in 2006 was called up and had his major league debut in relief last night. Two words "lights out". He possessed overpowering velocity on his fastball, and a devastating downward break on his change-up. After the faltering of Edgar Gonzalez in his last couple of starts, expect Mighty Max to be a starter in the not too distant future.
Why are the D-Backs the new team to beat in the NL? Forget about the young talented daily lineup they have that can hit for power, and have a year of playoff experience under their collective belts. Oh and by the way, they actually like each other....Uhem...sorry Yankees.
Let's talk about the greatest athletes on the planet, the pitching staff:
Brandon Webb: 2006 Cy Young Winner
Dan Haren: 2007 AL All Star Game Starter
Micah Owings: 2007 Silver Slugger Award Winner....OH and he can pitch too!!
Randy Johnson: Steadily working his way back to extreme effectiveness. His HOF resume speaks volumes. 'Nough said.
Max Scherzer: A number 5 starter with 94-98MPH fastball and a change that drops off of the table. One word "UNCLE"!!
Chad Qualls: Has not given up an earned run yet this year, I'd say that's pretty darn impressive. Besides that, everything he throws is hard.
Brandon Lyon: All of a sudden , becoming a closer of better than average effectiveness.
Juan Cruz: I hate it when you can bring a reliever in in the 7th inning that throws from 94-98MPH for three outs. He also chews up innings like a weed whacker.
I originally said that they would win the NL West by a game over the Pads. Now it looks as though they can win the division by a mile.
The Mets are coming in this weekend, I am going to the game on Saturday. I will be rooting for the boys from Flushing, but I know it is going to one heck of a series.
Ahhh the beauty of 20 oz. cold ones while watching the greatest game created by man.

The NFL Draft Approaches
Here we are 72 hours away from the big day for those collegiate athletes that have bled sweated and cried because of their passion for the game. We have one early answer as to who will be the number 1 pick will be. I am shocked that the TUNA didn't trade out and accumulate draft choices, but that's why we play the games.
Rams: May trade out, but if they keep it, they will go with Mr. Long from UVA.
Falcons: May also trade out, but if not, Mr. Dorsey from LSU.
Raiders: Could take McFadden if they do not have the Jets trade into the three spot. If he is gone, look for them to take Vernon Gholston from OSU.
Jets: See if they can make some magic happen and land McFadden. If they do, they may have to outscore opponents, but to be sure, they will be fun to watch.
Patriots: They want McFadden, but too damned bad!!
Ravens: Matt Ryan is their major want and need.
Bengals: Ocho Cinco may in fact be very much outo, so they may take Limas Sweed out of Texas, just in case.
Saints: They are itching to move up on draft day, but may not be able to. If they don't, they will take Sedrick Ellis from USC.
Last minute moves may be quite interesting. This could be one of the best first rounds ever. Heat up the grill, and break out the chips and salsa. We are in for a wild ride.
Ahhh.... the beauty of the NFL draft.
Let the games begin........

Speed Kills
I know this is a bit dramatic for a blog headline, but it happens to be a true statement. I could not have been any more incorrect than I was about the Final Four. I thought good solid fundamental basketball would prevail. But it turns out that speed conquered all. I wish I could make an intelligent decision about who is going to win the whole enchilada, but it is nothing more than a coin flip at this point. I think Memphis may be a little quicker and smarter than Kansas. Keep the mortgage payment and just shake hands with a friend. I heard it's sunny today in Denver....that could change.

2008 NFL Draft
I guess I never really noticed that there is no off season for the NFL. People would always say it, but it just never kicked in. I must have been having yet another senior moment. Be that as it may, I can't wait for the upcoming draft. Here is my best guess as to how it will work itself out (at least the first 10 picks).
1) Dolphins: Parcells will trade out of this spot. I don't care who he likes, he has a reputation for accumulating picks. Considering how screwed Miami is as a team, the Tuna will stay true to form.
1a) It depends on who trades with the Fish, but I am going to hope it is a team out of the division, and the Falcons will take Matt Ryan out of Boston College.
2) St. Louis Rams; Glenn Dorsey (What's not to love about this well polished DE?
3) Miami Dolphins: Chris Long. If you can't have the best, might as well have the son of a Hall of Famer. This guy is going to light it up.
4) Oakland Raiders: What a mess. I think they will stay away from an offensive player and go with Sedrick Ellis.
5) Kansas City Chiefs: They love Ryan, but if he is gone they will take McFadden.
6) NY Jets: I pray that my team will make a smart decision and take another awesome defensive player in the likeness of Vernon Gholston. If the Jets win, it will be with one of the best defensive units ever established. ( Yes, even better than the 2000 Ravens).
7) NE Patriots: I am so glad that they were stripped of a first round pick this year (what a joke). I think they will try to fill Asante Samuels' shoes and go with a cover corner. Mike Jenkins.
8) Baltimore Ravens: If Ryan is there, here's where he goes, if not, Jake Long OT
9) Cincinatti Bengals; They need a runner, if Ocho Cinco sits outo, they may go wide out: Malcolm Kelley
10) New Orleans Saints: The Saints could trade out of this spot, to get some extra picks, if they stay, I think they will take Keith Rivers OLB USC.
There you have it. This is about as sure a thing as the weather in Denver. There will be some moves, of that I'm sure. Let's have a cold one and see how it turns out.
Ahh....the beauty of indecisiveness.
