AZ D-Backs are team to be dealt with

Have you ever had those feelings that when you see something special, you just know it to be true in your heart? Sure sometimes you think you are seeing the real thing, but your eyes may be deceiving you. I have had the pleasure of seeing one of the best up and coming pitching phenoms up close and personal, and I felt it to be my duty to say all of MLB.....Watch out for Max Scherzer.

The first round selection by the D-Backs in 2006 was called up and had his major league debut in relief last night. Two words "lights out". He possessed overpowering velocity on his fastball, and a devastating downward break on his change-up. After the faltering of Edgar Gonzalez in his last couple of starts, expect Mighty Max to be a starter in the not too distant future.

Why are the D-Backs the new team to beat in the NL? Forget about the young talented daily lineup they have that can hit for power, and have a year of playoff experience under their collective belts. Oh and by the way, they actually like each other....Uhem...sorry Yankees.

Let's talk about the greatest athletes on the planet, the pitching staff:
Brandon Webb: 2006 Cy Young Winner
Dan Haren: 2007 AL All Star Game Starter
Micah Owings: 2007 Silver Slugger Award Winner....OH and he can pitch too!!
Randy Johnson: Steadily working his way back to extreme effectiveness. His HOF resume speaks volumes. 'Nough said.
Max Scherzer: A number 5 starter with 94-98MPH fastball and a change that drops off of the table. One word "UNCLE"!!
Chad Qualls: Has not given up an earned run yet this year, I'd say that's pretty darn impressive. Besides that, everything he throws is hard.
Brandon Lyon: All of a sudden , becoming a closer of better than average effectiveness.
Juan Cruz: I hate it when you can bring a reliever in in the 7th inning that throws from 94-98MPH for three outs. He also chews up innings like a weed whacker.

I originally said that they would win the NL West by a game over the Pads. Now it looks as though they can win the division by a mile.

The Mets are coming in this weekend, I am going to the game on Saturday. I will be rooting for the boys from Flushing, but I know it is going to one heck of a series.

Ahhh the beauty of 20 oz. cold ones while watching the greatest game created by man.
