The Best and Worst of 2007

Since I have just begun my blog, and it happens to be the last week of 2007. I figured that I might as well throw in my two cents as to what has transpired over the last 12 months in the sports world. Some events were good, some were bad, and some were downright butt ugly. I have listed these random events in those three categories. Feel free to throw in your two cents as well. I know I have missed a lot, but so what...it's my blog. Just kidding. I have selected these events because of what they meant to me.



The Good:



Boise State Vs. Oklahoma: I know that the folks in Norman won't exactly agree, but it has to be one of the greatest college football games of all time.



Craig Biggio's last season: I had the pleasure of competing against Craig in the ACBL (Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League) many years ago. You can tell by the way he approached the game that he was going to be special. It is only fitting that he got his 3,000th hit (in an incredible fashion) during his final year as a pro. Cooperstown will be a much better place once Mr. Biggio arrives.



Appalachian St. vs. Michigan: Yet again David knocks off Goliath (and David got paid for it). Sorry Ann Arbor, but it was awesome to watch.



A-Rod's 500th Homer: As you will find out in future posts, I am not a fan of A-Rod, but with all of the crap going down in baseball, it was good to have hope that someone is within striking distance of of Mr. Bonds (please see Ugly section).



Florida's repeat as College Hoops Champs: Nice work guys.



Brett Favre: I hate to break this to all of the future QB's in Green Bay, but there will be only two QB's that will ever mentioned with any reverence. Mr. Starr and Mr. Favre. 'Nough said!





The Bad:



Michael Vick: The whole damned thing just sucked. Absolutely positively sucked.



Tim Donahey: Please see Michael Vick comments.



Barbaro: It was bad because he ended up in an Alpo factory, but it was great because of the compassion that oozed from us all. We felt bad for the horse, and it was touching to watch the gift baskets of carrots and apples being delivered to him. That was just a small glimpse as to why America is the best country on the planet.



Bobby Petrino: I have mixed feelings about this one. This is America and we can come and go as we please, but Arthur Blank deserved a little better that that. Bobby Petrino just ended up being a classless douche bag.



Sean Taylor: I was just going to write please see Mr. Vick's comments, but Mr. Taylor deserves much better than that. I hope that none of you have to experience someone entering into your house with a weapon. But just think about what must have been going through Mr. Taylor's mind during his final moments of life. He was going to do anything he could to save his fiance' and his newborn baby. No matter what happened to Mr. Taylor in his early days, he died a hero...PERIOD!!





The Butt Ugly:



The historic collapse of the NY Mets: This one hits home for me. I am a former NY'er and I love the METS, but my significant other has explicit instructions upon my demise to have only four words placed on my head stone. METS, JETS, KNICKS, RANGERS. Everyone who visits my grave will know exactly why I died at such a young age.



San Antonio Sterns win NBA Championship: This one is so ugly, I could shave my ass and walk backwards down the street, and still look better than this fiasco. David Stern is pompous butt-wad who can stick his palaver down his throat. Timmy boy was a referee for a game in the Phoenix vs. SA series, wonder how much he won on that one. Last but not least, the stupidest, most ambiguous rule ever created by man played a role in deciding the Phoenix vs SA series. Other than that it was perfect.



Steroids in Baseball: I would like to start by saying that Mr. Clemens' interview with Mike Wallace on Jan. 6th is without question must see TV. We shall see how much Roger is going to say, and see if there are any questions that Mike is not going to be able to ask Roger. I have some bad news for Mr. Clemens. I was a teammate of Mr. McNamee's for a couple of seasons. One thing I can say in his defense is that if he is lying it would be a shock to me. Brian is a straight shooter (pardon the pun), I don't care what kind of Fed time he is or was facing. I found it funny that Andy Pettitte came out and admitted his usage like a man. It's unfortunate that someone that was held in such high regard as you for so many years is turning out to be a sack less wonder. Shame on you.

Onto the obscure sports: There have been trophies handed out for the following events. unicycle Hockey, Extreme Ironing, Underwater Hockey, Mixed Doubles Lawn Bowling and to a team in the Adult Kickball Association. This is why I love sports, and this is why love people. You just never know what you are going to get.
